How is the implant affixed in the body?

Surgeons of hip replacement surgery at hospitals of Delhi in India are now more popular than ever and 50% cheaper than surgery back home. A special type of bone acrylic cement may be used to secure some or all of the implant components to the bone. If used, the bone cement takes about 15 minute to set.
Press-Fit
In other cases, the implants may be “press-fit” into the bone. Press-fit components may have a special porous coating that allows tissue to grow up to it for fixation.
Combination
In some cases, your surgeon may choose a combination of cement and press-fit attachment, depending upon the implant components and condition of the pelvic and thigh bone. The decision as to whether to use a cemented or press-fit component depends upon many factors, including the manufacturer’s intended use of the product, surgeon philosophy and the patient’s condition. The surgery usually takes two to four hours, although this is dependent upon the severity of the arthritis in your hip. In the operating room, a urinary catheter will be inserted and left in place for one or two days. Compression stockings and pneumatic sleeves will be put on both legs. The procedure is performed through an incision over the side of the hip. The ball-end of the thighbone (femur) is cut and replaced with the new metal ball and stem component.
It may be stabilized with or without cement. The damaged surface of the socket is smoothed in preparation for the insertion of the new socket. The ball and socket are then joined. When the surgeon is satisfied with the fit and function, the incision will be cleaned and covered with dressings. You will also find small drainage tubes coming out of the hip to drain fluid from the wound. You will be sent to the recovery room and as the anesthesia wears off you will slowly regain consciousness. A nurse will be with you, and may encourage you to cough or breathe deeply to help clear your lungs. You will also be given pain medication and will find a foam wedge or pillows placed between your legs to help hold your joint in place. When you are fully conscious, you will be taken back to your hospital room. The charge for surgeons of hip replacement at hospitals of Delhi in India is very low when compared to that in many western countries.

If you have difficulty walking or performing everyday activities such as getting dressed, it may be time to consider hip replacement surgery. Doctors generally try to delay total hip replacement for as long as possible in favor of less invasive treatments. However in patients with advanced joint disease, hip replacement offers the chance for relief from pain and a return to normal activities.
How do I prepare for hip replacement surgery?
If you and your surgeon decide that total hip replacement is right for you, a date will be scheduled for your surgery. Several things may be necessary to prepare for surgery. For example, your surgeon might ask you to have a physical examination by your primary care physician. This will help to ensure that other health problems you may have, such as diabetes or high blood pressure, will be identified and treated before surgery. How is it done?

If anything, increased demand on hip replacement at Delhi in India due to medical tourism may result in their expansion. Hip replacement generally takes one to two hours. It may be performed under a general or spinal anesthesia. During the procedure the surgeon will remove the damaged or diseased portion of the hipbone replacing it with an artificial hip joint). You will return from surgery with a large dressing on the hip area. You may be required to wear “anti-embolism” stockings to reduce the risk of developing blood clots. A small drainage tube will be placed during surgery to help drain excess fluids from the joint area. Rehabilitation and physical therapy are started immediately following surgery and continue throughout hospitalization and at home for one year after surgery.
Why is it done?
Relief from pain is the greatest benefit and the major reason for hip replacement surgery. Reasons for replacing all or part of the hip joint include: severe pain from arthritis or injury in the hip that limits an individual’s ability to do the things they want to do, fractures in the elderly of the neck of the femur, and the occurrence of hip joint tumors. Who should have hip replacement surgery?

Hip replacement at Mumbai in India is now more popular than ever and 50% cheaper than surgery back home. The most common reason that people have hip replacement surgery is the wearing down of the hip joint that results from osteoarthritis. Other conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis (a chronic inflammatory disease that causes joint pain, stiffness, and swelling), avascular necrosis (loss of bone caused by insufficient blood supply), injury, and bone tumors also may lead to breakdown of the hip joint and the need for hip replacement surgery. Before suggesting hip replacement surgery, the doctor is likely to try walking aids such as a cane, or non-surgical therapies such as medication and physical therapy. These therapies are not always effective in relieving pain and improving the function of the hip joint. Hip replacement may be an option if persistent pain and disability interfere with daily activities. Before a doctor recommends hip replacement, joint damage should be detectable on x rays. Hip replacement, or arthroplasty, is a surgical procedure in which the diseased parts of the hip joint are removed and replaced with new, artificial parts. These artificial parts are called the prosthesis. The goals of hip replacement surgery are to improve mobility by relieving pain and improve function of the hip joint. It replaces the upper end of the thighbone (femur) with a metal ball and resurfaces the hip socket in the pelvic bone with a metal shell and plastic liner. It replaces damaged cartilage with new joint material in a step-by-step process. Doctors recommend joint replacement surgery when hip pain and loss of function become severe, and medicines and other treatments no longer relieve pain. Your doctor will use X-rays to look at the bones and cartilage in your hip to see whether they are damaged and to make sure that the pain isn't coming from somewhere else. There will be a greater push for encouraging private insurance tied to systems of accreditation of hip replacement hospitals in India.

Hip replacement in India through FLY2INDIA4HEALTH was a great boon for me. The pain felt excruciating. It felt like broken glass inside my hip and was constant when I was either walking or sitting down. The pain affected my life, right down to dressing me, going to work, doing things that I enjoy. I couldn't food shop, I couldn't put my sneakers on, I couldn't put my socks on, and the pain was constant. The pain affected my relationships, the fact that I wasn't able to go out and do the things that I enjoyed with my family and my friends. The particular moment I decided to get my hip fixed was when I felt too young to be so ... handicapped.
This all started two years ago, while on vacation, in July 2005, all of a sudden, I couldn't walk, I was in such pain and thinking what I did to my right hip. I remember not sleeping well, tossing and turning, and had to sleep with my right leg out, and having this pain. And the nights become worst, after this all, and times I couldn't even sleep on my right side (hip area), it was sore and I was wondering why it was so sore. This went on for 1.5years, on and off, some nights I slept good and others I didn't sleep good. I went from doctor to doctor and nobody couldn't give me a good answer. Then after that, I was in such pain, when I even tried to walk. My job consists of factory work, working as a training supervisor for the disabled adults, and times I couldn't even walk. I would limp and my right side was in terrible pain, I hide my pain each day at work, besides at home. I couldn't even walk upstairs, besides walking downstairs, or getting into a car, or getting out of a car, couldn't take my daughter clothes shopping because I had to stop every few steps because I was in this terrible bad pain, still wondering what was wrong with me. I had problems getting out of bed, so cramped and stiff, and at times, when alone that is when I broke down and cry, I was unbearable sharp, stabbing, pain. I couldn't even enjoy making love with my boyfriend because I was 10X in more pain then anything, and afterwards, I couldn't even pull up my pants, or tie my shoes, or even sit up. While I was seeing this one doctor, he did put me on Vioxx, and that didn't help, and then I saw it was very swollen on my right hip area, and he said, that I had Hip Bursitis, so he gave me a shot, it helped for about two days, and after that I was back in pain again, then he put me on Ultracet and that didn't help me, so here I was taking on my own. The doctor even took X-rays on my hip and it showed really nothing wrong with it, in June , but he told me, that he will referred me over to the specialist (only way to go to see him, is being referred by another doctor), so on Feb , I saw him, and he took X-rays again, and here the bad news came, telling me that I have NO cartilage left, and I am on bone on bone, and he said everything that he thought was wrong with me, and it was so unreal to hear him telling me about my pain, because it was so true. Everyone of my friends/family told me that I had the best doctor, to do the work, or even to see him. Anyway, the doctor explained everything to me, showing me my X-rays, watching me walk, trying to bend and twist my leg, finding out where the pain is, and telling me that, nowadays, not only Older People get Total Hip Replacement; it’s becoming the younger people, but that it was up to me, to decide. He told me, we can take X-rays again in 6-months, but leading up to waiting IF I really wanted the surgery, I might not be able to get out of bed anymore, or I might fall and be in such pain that I might needed Emergency Surgery, and he went on with all the options, if I waited another 6-mos...So, he told me, to think about it, and handed me some information, etc, and when I find out if I wanted to go ahead with the surgery, is to contact him. I waited one week, getting some advice from coworkers at my job, family, and my friends, but also, I thought about this very deeply and decided, I am in such pain the way it is, and keeps me from doing almost everything in life, I decided on my own, that Yes, I would want this surgery. I am still young, very active person who is not overweight and feel, this would be right for me. I was devastated to be told there was a ten month waiting list for hip replacement surgery on the NHS.
Over time, I have collected a number of links to various sites that I've found helpful or useful in researching knee and hip replacement, surgery in general, arthritis, and related conditions. I've also added Google search boxes to help visitors find more information out on the web. I went online and looked up lots of information on hip replacement surgery. I discussed it with my family and my doctor. And that is how I came across the website of Fly2india4health Consultants in India, the website looked very informative and its patient testimonials were amazing so I decided to make a call. I had a Telephonic talk with Dr Dheeraj Bojwani who answered my entire question very calmly which gave lot of confidenence in me to go to India for hip replacement. When I set out to try and have this operation I had lots of questions and anxieties about the reputation and success of the surgeon, as well as the risks of infection, how to get there and back, how well I would be at the end of the surgery and after the nine days of therapy, but the speed and accuracy of the communications put my mind at rest and helped me make my decision to go ahead. I arrived in Mumbai and checked through and immediately saw a man holding my name and the name of that company and we were taken to a car who took us to the hospital about half hours drive from the airport. In the week that followed I was given all the necessary tests and informed by the surgeon that he could see no reason for me not to have a hip replacement which would give complete recovery. After arriving to India for hip replacement and seeing the hospital my unease soon faded. The calm atmosphere, the gleaming high-tech equipment and the soothing manner of the surgeon instantly reassured me.
The operation went ahead; the operation was performed by a most competent Orthopaedic Surgeon with the latest technology available using a computer-aided navigation system, when I recovered consciousness although my body was shivering with shock the nurses were in blowing hot air to keep me warm. I felt no pain during the operation & only a very slight discomfort after the surgery. The staff & nurses treating me were most sympathetic & helpful in every way. Every request by me & my family was granted with warmth, love & affection. I felt that I was receiving the best possible care as I had all week and the feeling of relief and gratefulness was difficult to describe. The expertise and care is second to none. The staff was extremely professional, competent, compassionate and pleasant at all times and the standards of hygiene, food and cleanliness were beyond reproach. The medical reception and consultations were very precise and explanatory, the surgeon visited me daily, the food was very appetizing and of a very high standard and there were no problems with language translations as the translator was totally bilingual and helpful to a degree far over and above what I would have expected . I was receiving lots of physiotherapy. I like all the nurses and staff and I am confident that I have had the best possible operation and a very positive experience! I also had a series of treatment by speciality physiotherapist & a specialist dietician attended to my diet during the time I was in the hospital. I felt very comfortable with the new found freedom of movement in my hip. Indian. It is now 2 months from my hip replacement in India and I am very living a very active & pain free life and Indian doctors and nurses performed the procedure that I wanted for a fraction of the cost in the United States.
